Lady Bears Open 2024-25 Season In Ohio; Place 14th In Penguin Classic

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Oct. 13, 2024)--Morgan State's women's bowling team opened the 2024-25 season with a trip to the Midwest to compete in the Penguin Classic, hosted by Youngstown State University.
 
The Lady Bears would go 2-11 on the weekend to finish 14th out of 16 teams. Nebraska captured the team title with an 11-2 record.
 
Morgan State began the tournament with Baker play, finishing with a 1-4 mark on the opening day. The Lady Bears started with a loss to host Youngstown State (947-980), before defeating Bryant (947-794). Morgan would then lose its remaining three matches, falling to Roberts Wesleyan (853-864), McKendree (853-1,001) and Central Missouri (867-1,004).
 
On Saturday's Traditional games, the Lady Bears lost their first four contests, falling to Valparaiso (783-975), Nebraska (961-1,061), Lewis (883-952) and Walsh (818-876). Morgan closed out the day earning its last victory of the tournament against Wright State 961-864).
 
Morgan closed out Sunday's Championship bracket with three losses in best-of-seven Baker matches. The Lady Bears first lost to Mercyhurst (1-4), then dropped back-to-back seven game contests to Roberts Wesleyan (3-4) and Lewis (3-4) to end the tournament.
 
Morgan State was led by Ayanna Carol, who placed 36th overall. Carol recorded 946 pins for an average of 189.20 for the weekend. She bowled a high game of 230 against Wright State (10/12).
 
Next Up: The Lady Bears will travel to Baton Rouge, La. to compete in the Southern Queens Tournament (Oct. 25-27), hosted by Southern University-Baton Rouge.
