BALTIMORE, Md. (Aug. 31, 2023) - Former Morgan State star forward Phillip Carr has signed to continue his overseas career in Europe. Carr will play professionally for AD Galomar for the 2023-24 season. The team competes in the Portugal-Liga Betclic.
"My new team is a cool group of guys," said Carr. "Everyone speaks English so that's a plus!" (laughs)
"I'm looking forward to a new journey in a new country. I'm ready to dominate the league and help this team have a successful season."
Carr reflected on his professional growth over the years.
"My understanding of the game has grown tremendously," he said. "My shooting has gotten more consistent and I've also learned how to play at another gear."
A high level of praise was reserved for Carr's alma mater.
"Being at the illustrious Morgan State taught me how to adapt to a variety of environments," explained Carr. "I've learned how to take care of my body. The right things to eat and drink. And it got me accustomed to taking a lot of flights and playing a lot of games."
The 27-year old played last season at Jamtland in Swedish Basketligan. In 36 games he averaged 9.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 1.1 apg. As a result of his contributions, the Jamtland finished the regular season as a second best team in the league and advanced to the league semifinals.Â
Carr also played one game in the FIBA Europe Cup where he recorded 8 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
The previous (2022) summer he played for HBCUnited in the U.S. semi-pro league TBT.
He has played also professionally in Italy (Piacenza), Slovakia (Iskra Svit) and NBA G League (Cleveland Charge and Westchester Knicks).

At Morgan State, he started over 70 games in three years. He was consistent. He led his team in rebounds during every season he played for the Bears (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18). Carr averaged over 30 minutes a game in that span as well.Â
An All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) First Team selection during his senior campaign, Carr became one of only seven players in Morgan State history to score over 1,000 points and grab over 700 rebounds. He became the 19th member of MSU's 1,000-point club, scoring 1,165 points in 87 games and ranks sixth on the school's charts with 741 career rebounds, totals that he accumulated in just three seasons.
As a senior, Carr also garnered National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 15 first team honors for the second consecutive season, and received second-team BOXTOROW Division I All-American honors as well.
Carr graduated from Morgan State in 2018 and this will be his sixth season as a professional player.Â
