TOWSON, Md. (March 31 2023) — The Morgan State men's track and field team competed at the 2023 Towson Invitational this weekend at Johnny Unitas® Stadium hosted by Towson University. The meet began Friday and concluded Saturday afternoon.
The Bears finished the weekend with nine top five finishes and 13 top 10 finishes.
How it Happened
● Ali Bowens ran a season best time of 22.42 to place ninth in the 200m dash. In the 100m dash, Bowens ran a 10.85 to win his heat and advanced to the finals where he placed fourth with a time of 10.92.
● Sophomore Malik Brown placed fifth in the pole vault with a leap of 4.05m (13-03.50).
● Tarique Gooden clocked in a season best time of 56.02 to place to sixth place in the 400m hurdles. Malachi Wesley placed eighth with a season best time of 57.19.
● Jackson Waller placed 11th in the 5000m with a season best time of 15:59.85.
● Freshman Joshua Belinga placed 14th in the long jump with a distance of 6.32m (20-09.00).
● John Purvis took third place in the shot put with a toss of 15.14m (49-08.25). The junior also placed fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.96m (160-07) and fifth in the discus with a 46.16m (151-05).
● Freshman Jadon Ra-Akbar turned in a third place finish in the 110m hurdles by clocking in with a season best time of 14.71. Teammates Duane Kizer and Malachi Wesley recorded fifth (14.78) and sixth place (14.91 - season best) finishes, respectively.
● Junior Justin Alston ran a 2:07.29 in the 800m.
● Morgan's 4x100m relay 'A' team consisting of Jadon Ra-Akbar, Antonio Sims, Ali Bowens and Joshua Belinga raced to a fourth place finish with a time of 42.48.
● Morgan's 4x400m relay 'A' quartet of Antonio Sims, Duane Kizer, Omari McKenzie and Malachi Wesley placed third with a time of 3:25.40.
