PRINCETON, N.J. (Dec. 10, 2023)--The Morgan State women's track and field team traveled to Princeton University on Saturday for the Joe Handelman Invitational and had a productive day. The Lady Bears would have 14 top-five finishes, while capturing gold in three events. It was the final meet of the 2023 season.
Tia Jackson captured the long jump crown for the second consecutive meet, recording a winning jump of 19-1 ¼ (5.82 meters). Teammate Hemetii Apet finished second with a jump of 17-7 ½ (5.37m).
Abigail Fisher also claimed gold, winning the mile run in a time of 5:34.64, while
Crystal Coke crossed the line in 5:41.68 to come in second.
Morgan's final gold of the day came in the 4X400 meter relay with
Lailah King,
Jessica Lamborn,
Tia Jackson and
Zion Pittman placing first with a winning time of 4:36.55.
Gabrielle Jefferies,
Makenzie Harris,
Victoria Francis and
Laniyah Henderson placed second after crossing the line in a time of 4:45.73.
Other top performances came from
Ishana Asinor, who claimed second in the pole vault with a mark of 10-feet-8 inches (3.25m).
Terine Lambert finished second in the shot put with a throw of 47-feet-5 ¼ (14.46m), while
Johnelle Johnson came in fourth with a toss of 43-feet-2 ¼ (13.16m). Their marks currently rank first and second, respectively, in the MEAC. Johnson also had a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a throw of 56-feet-0 (17.07m), which is second in the MEAC.
On the track,
Lailah King placed second in the 60 meter dash in 7.80 seconds, while
Victoria Francis (7.87) and
Denisha McLaurin (8.05) finished third and fourth.
Jessica Lamborn finished fourth in the 600 meters in a time of 1:41.68.
Morgan State will be off until Saturday, Jan. 13, when it travels to Manhattan, N.Y. to compete in the KPMG HBCU Invitational.
