Hunter and Jenkins Named MEAC Players of the Week

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 30, 2023) — Morgan junior linebacker Erick Hunter has been named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference. Sophomore Keith Jenkins Jr. was recognized as MEAC Specialist of the Week.

This marks the second time Hunter has received this prestigious honor, further solidifying his reputation as an emerging defensive powerhouse in the league.

Hunter, a junior linebacker from Capitol Heights, Md., picked off a pass and returned it for a 60-yard score in the final quarter of the Bear's win over Norfolk State. He also collected three solo tackles and registered a pass break-up in Morgan's comeback victory.

Hunter continues to wreak havoc for opposing offenses, leading a defense ranked No. 1 in the MEAC in total defense (313.6). He currently leads the league with 52 tackles to go along with 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Jenkins, a native of Gainesville, Va., helped spark the Bears to close the gap when he returned a kickoff for a 90-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Bear's win over Norfolk State. The score was the third kickoff return for a touchdown of his career. He finished the contest with four kickoff returns for 158 yards (39.5 avg.).

Jenkins, who was one of the top return specialists in the nation as a freshman last year, is currently averaging 23.7 yards per kick return (No. 3 in MEAC).

Morgan State will look to post back-to-back wins when they host the Delaware State Hornets on Saturday, Nov. 4.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Hughes Stadium and will be carried live by ESPN+ and WEAA-88.9 FM.
