Former Smyrna star Cameron Edge leads Morgan State into Delaware State matchup

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 5, 2026) — For Morgan State quarterback Cameron Edge, Saturday's trip to Dover, Delaware, will be more than another road game. It will be a homecoming.

The Clayton, Delaware, native will return to his home state when the Bears face Delaware State at Alumni Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. The matchup offers Edge an opportunity to compete in front of family, friends, and familiar faces while helping Morgan State get back on track in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.

Family played a significant role in Edge's decision to continue his collegiate career at Morgan State, making Saturday's return especially meaningful.

"Oh, it means a lot. Family is a big deal, a big reason why I came here, come back home," Edge said. "So I'm really excited to be back somewhere I played before and very, very close to where I grew up. So I'm excited."

For Edge, the opportunity to return home as a starting collegiate quarterback is something he never anticipated when he was developing his game in Delaware.

"No, I definitely didn't. I didn't foresee that at all, but I'm excited about it. Really happy to be close to home," he said.

A Delaware standout with big ambitions
Long before he became the starting quarterback for the Bears, Edge established himself as one of Delaware's premier high school football players at Smyrna High School.

A highly regarded four-star recruit and ESPN 300 selection, Edge was ranked the No. 1 player in Delaware and the No. 11 quarterback nationally in his recruiting class. During his standout 2021 season, he completed 183 of 273 passes for 2,990 yards and 27 touchdowns, earning First Team All-State honors and Delaware 3A Offensive Player of the Year recognition.

His performance attracted national attention and scholarship offers from several major programs. Edge ultimately chose the University of Maryland, where he spent three seasons developing his game before transferring to Eastern Michigan.

After another stop, Edge found his opportunity at Morgan State, where he has become the leader of the Bears' offense.

The lessons he learned growing up in Delaware continue to influence his approach to football.

"You just have to scratch and claw every day, and you have to bring your details to every practice," Edge said. "That's a big thing I learned being back home, just how we practice really well and just the bond."

That connection is something Edge sees in the current Morgan State team.

"That's one thing about high school. I feel like this team's closest to what I had there in high school, just being close to the guys and having a good time with what you do," he added.

Perseverance rewarded
Edge's journey to Morgan State has required patience, determination, and the willingness to continue working toward his goals through multiple stops.

Head Coach Damon Wilson has seen firsthand the perseverance Edge has demonstrated throughout his collegiate career and believes his determination has been a major part of his success.

"I'd say he's a young man who's determined to accomplish his goals," Wilson said. "He showed a lot of perseverance with the other two stops that he's made to find a home at Morgan State and to take advantage of the opportunity. It's been great to see."

Beyond his production on the field, Edge has also made an impact within the quarterback room by sharing the experiences he has gained throughout his journey.

Wilson believes that perspective has helped the younger quarterbacks understand the responsibilities that come with leading a football program.

"He's a guy that doesn't have a problem with sharing his past experiences, good and bad, and getting the guys to understand the big picture, which is ultimately to, you know, lead the ball club to wins," Wilson said.

Wilson also praised the overall preparation and football knowledge within the quarterbacks room, noting that Edge's experiences have contributed to an environment where the players continue to learn from one another.

A homecoming with something at stake
Saturday's matchup carries significance beyond Edge's personal return to Delaware. Morgan State enters the contest looking to snap a three-game losing streak and earn its first MEAC victory of the season.

The Bears will face a Delaware State team coming off a dramatic comeback victory over Norfolk State. With both teams entering the matchup at 5-4 overall, the contest presents an important opportunity for Morgan State to regain momentum as the regular season enters its final stretch.

For Edge, the approach remains the same regardless of the opponent or setting.

"You know, it's important just like every other game, but just getting back on track, you know, taking things one play at a time and just playing as a unit," he said.

Still, there's no denying the added emotion that comes with playing close to home.

Winning on the road is always important, but doing so in front of the people who have supported him throughout his journey would make Saturday's result even more special.

"It'd mean a lot. Getting the win anywhere is big, but, you know, obviously being back home, it's definitely a little bit more emotional," Edge said. "But excited to go play the guys and come out with a win."

For a quarterback whose journey has taken him through multiple stops before finding his opportunity at Morgan State, Saturday represents another meaningful chapter — one that brings him back to where it all began.

And this time, he'll be leading the Bears.
