NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 25, 2023 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Delaware State University will host the 2023 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the Delaware State Outreach & Research Center in Smyrna, Del.
The championships will begin with the women's 5K race at 11 a.m., with the men's 8K race following at 12 p.m. The top 15 runners from each race will be named All-MEAC.
Norfolk State is the three-time defending men's MEAC champion claiming the title in 2019, 2021, and 2022 (there was no championship held in 2020 due to effects from the COVID-19 pandemic). The Spartans return Gidion Sigei, the 2022 individual champion, and Brian Rotich who finished sixth in last years race.
Howard's women took the 2022 title, the first time the Lady Bison had won the MEAC Championship since 2005. The Lady Bison return Camille Egbula, Breanna McDonald, Joslyn Crosby, and Jordyn Miller from last year's championship team. The Howard runners finished third, fifth, sixth, eighth, and tenth respectively.
Mercyline Kimaiyo, the reigning MEAC Women's individual champion, returns this year as the pack favorite leading the Spartans. Teammate Kara Grant, who finished fourth in the 2022 race, returns for NSU as well.
On Saturday morning, the MEAC will team up with Delaware State to recognize breast cancer survivors. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m.
