Richardson named MEAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

BALTIMROE, Md. (Sept. 19, 2022) – Morgan State linebacker Lawrence Richardson has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bears 24-9 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday.
 
Khalil Baker of North Carolina Central was also selected as Co-Defensive Players of the Week, while his Eagles teammate quarterback Davius Richard was selected as the MEAC Offensive Player of the Week. Delaware State's C.J. Henry was named Rookie of the Week. North Carolina Central's Corey Bullock was named Offensive Lineman of the Week and the Eagles' Adrian Olivo was named Specialist of the Week.
 
Richardson, a product of Philadelphia, Pa., led the Bears defense in Morgan State's win over Sacred Heart, the first win of head coach Damon Wilson's tenure, recording 10 tackles (six solo)  and a pass breakup. He also had 0.5 tackles for loss (seven yards) and two quarterback hurries as the Bears held the Pioneers to 2-for-14 on third down and 0-for-5 on fourth down.
 
Richardson currently leads the MEAC with 29 tackles (19 solo). He's also been credited with 2.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. 
 
Morgan State returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 when the Bears play host to the Virginia-Lynchburg Dragons. Kick-off at Hughes Stadium is scheduled for 12 noon and will be broadcast WEAA, 88.9 FM and streamed live by ESPN+.
