DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (March 4, 2022)-The TNBA HBCU Championship finished Day #1 at Southern Lanes and the Morgan State bowling team sits in second-place after five (5) five-game Baker Matches. The Lady Bears finished with a 2-3 record on the day.

Highlights of Friday's 5 Traditional Game Matches:
• Morgan State's sits in second-place, 165 pins behind Alabama State after Round 1

Cheyenne Washington had a Baker Frame Average of 20.81 on Friday.

Natalia Miranda Vega shot a Baker Frame Average of 20.42 on Friday.

Friday's Baker Matches:
#18 Morgan State 907, Jackson State 882
Morgan State was slow out of the block and was down 81 pins to the host team, Jackson State. The Lady Bears found their pace beginning in Game 3, 4 and 5 rolling games of 191, 209 and 217 to bowl past JSU to take the first win.

#18 Morgan State 826, Alabama A&M 864
The next match saw another slow start from the Bears putting them 83 back of Alabama A&M after three games. Finishing with a 210 and 178 still wasn't enough to close the gap seeing the Bears take their first loss on the day.

#18 Morgan State 896, Florida A&M 863
Morgan State overcame one low game in Match 3 to power past the Rattlers of Florida A&M by 33 pins after the dust settled.

#18 Morgan State 915, Alabama State 922Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Morgan State found themselves down 46 pins heading into Game 5 against Alabama State. Even though it bowled strong in Game 5, the 218-179 difference was not enough to bowl past the Hornets.

Morgan State 727, Southern 937Â Â Â Â Â
In the final round of the day, Morgan State could never get comfortable or consistent the entire match. Southern took an early lead with the help of a 233 in the second game and finished with a 190 to dash any hopes of a comeback by the Lady Bears.

All of the Lady Bears saw the lanes on Friday.
Cheyenne Washington and
Natalia Miranda Vega led Morgan in scoring with Baker Frame Averages of 20.81 and 20.42 respectively, bowling in all five matches.
Aliya Adams also bowled in all five matches averaging 17.72.

"Consistency was a struggle today with finding room at the breakpoint and in our makeable spares," said Morgan State head coach
Thomas Falbo. "This team knows how to respond and will do so on Day #2. I need to do a better job tomorrow at giving them reads and I know they will execute great shots and improve on our scoring tomorrow."
