Rantin Leads Bears at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (March 19, 2022) – The Morgan State University men's track & field team opened the outdoor season by putting together some top performances at the Maryland Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland. The Bears captured three individual titles and 12 top-5 performances at Kehoe Track.

In the field events,  Zackery Dillon took home first place in the discus with a toss of 51.18m (167'11") and recorded a toss of 15.90m (52-2) to place third in the shot put. John Purvis added a fifth place finish in the shot put (15.64m) and eighth place finish in the hammer throw (37.94m).

Omari McKenzie placed sixth in the long jump by recording a leap of 6.22 meters (20-5).
 
Malik Brown finished third-place with a personal best in the pole vault as he cleared 3.80m (12-5.5).    
 
On the track, Keon Rantin swept the podium in two sprint events. He raced to a 11.00 finish to capture the 100m, and recorded a time of 21.95 to capture the 200m. Lamar Davis (11.24) and Emmanuel Ibeh (11.29) sprinted to fourth and fifth place in the 100m, respectively. Ibeh added a fourth place finish in the 200m with a 22.33.
 
Kobe-Jordan Rhooms took sixth-place in the 400m with a time of 50.97.

The 4x100 relay team comprised of Lamar Davis, Emmanuel Ibeh, Adrian Holley and Keon Rantin turned in a scond place finish with a time of 41:47. Morgan's 'B' squad of Demier Shipley, Ali Bowens, Adrian Holley and Brandon Jones finished fifth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:22.84.

Up Next
The Bears will travel to Columbia, S.C. to compete at the USC Weems Baskin Invitational next Friday and Saturday (3/25-26).
