Women’s Cross Country Takes Fourth In Season Opener

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (Sept. 4, 2021)-Running for the first time in 679 days, the Morgan State women's cross country team began the 2021 season with a fourth-place finish at the Towson Invitational on Saturday morning at the Baltimore Agricultural Center.
 
Host Towson won the event with a total of 30 points, while fellow Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware, placed second with 33 points. Saint Mary's College Maryland (104 points) was third with Morgan State scoring 119 for fourth. The University of the District of Columbia (138) and Coppin State (141) were fifth and sixth, respectively.
 
The Lady Bears, who last competed in the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship (MEAC) on October 26, 2019, had its 2020 campaign cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as the MEAC did not compete during the Fall season.
 
Rachel Field led Morgan State with a time of 16:17.30 to finish 17th overall. Jalissa Emmens finished the 4k course in a time of 16:53.80 to place 21st and Michelle Kamara (18:30.30) was 31st. Yasmine George (19:16.50) and Imani Jackson (19:26.00) finished 36th and 37th, respectively, while Micaela Fleetwood (21:06.00) placed 44th.
 
"Our women competed well today. We will continue to work as a team to get better as we progress throughout the season," said Morgan State head coach Neville Hodge.
 
Next up for Morgan State for be a trip to Smyrna, Del. for the Delaware State Sting Invite on Saturday, Sept. 11.
