Cheyenne Washington Signs With Morgan State

BALTIMORE, Md. (August 18, 2021)-Morgan State head women's bowling coach, Tom Falbo welcomes the addition of Cheyenne Washington to their Fall 2021 roster.

"Our ladies were very excited to hear of the signing of Cheyenne to our team. It's easy to see the high level of physical talent she possesses, but it is her mental game which is equally impressive," said Falbo. She makes the right decisions when she needs to and is able to adapt quickly to repeat great shots. Her proven scoring will add to an already promising roster."

"We look to her championship experience during her freshmen collegiate year to provide insight to her teammates and help grow our performance to the highest level possible. I'm excited to have Cheyenne in our Morgan family and watch her grow on and off the lanes."

Washington was captain and anchor bowler for Lake Orion (Mich.) High School girls varsity bowling team. As a high school senior she won the 2020 MSHAA Division 1 Individual State Championship. She was also a member of the 2020 MSHAA Division 1 regional championship team. Washington was the individual MSHAA regional champion in both 2017 and 2019 and an OAA singles champion. She also captured the Turbo Tech high school girls tournament championship in 2018.

Washington was the most valuable player for three years and was nominated each year from 2018-2020 for the Detroit Free Press Sports Award. It was in 2020 when Washington won the Detroit Free Press Sports Award for girls bowling.

During her freshman year at Prairie View A&M, Washington had a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) traditional average of 193, placing her 3rd overall in the SWAC last season. She was part of the Panthers' 2020-21 SWAC Championship team, which earned the right to compete at the NCAA National Championship in April of 2021. For the season, she averaged 186.3 and for 27 games bowled, she led the Prairie View squad for games bowled between 200-219, with a total of eight.

In the summer of 2021, her talent emerged showing success at the national level. At the 2021 Teen Masters tournament, Washington stayed around the top 10 all week and placed herself as high as eighth (8th) during competition. She finished the 48-game event averaging 189.78, placing 11th in a field of 68 competitors. By tournament rules, competitors were allowed only one bowling ball provided by the tournament to be used for all players for both their strikes and spares.

At the premier youth event at the 2021 USBC U18 Junior Gold Championship held in Indianapolis, Ind., Washington made it through the end of the final advancers round, placing 32nd in a tournament field of 560 competitors. A slow start after the first two days by her own standards is when she began to show her shot making ability. Washington averaged 195.44 for her last 18 games bowled to place herself in the top 5 percent of all competitors at the end of the tournament.

Washington has a high game of a perfect 300 and has a high three-game series of 696.

On what it means to be joining Morgan State beginning in the Fall of 2021, Washington states, "This is going to be rejuvenating. No doubt that our team will be having people turn their heads."

Washington, who plans to major in architecture at Morgan State, is the proud daughter of RaShun and Don Washington and has three siblings: Dominique, Oscar and Faith.
