Top Finishes Pace Track & Field Action at JMU Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. (April 18, 2021) – The Morgan State men's track and field team registered some solid performances at the James Madison Invitational meet on Saturday (April 17) at Sentara Park.
 
The Bears earned four first place performances and 12 individual top 5 performances.
 
On the track, sophomore sprinter Adrian Holley recorded top marks for the Bears in the 100 meter finals. He recorded a personal best time of 10.64 while breaking the tape before VMI's Jordin Poindexter (10.70) and George Mason's Aman Bivens (10.74).
 
Holley placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a 22.02 and also ran the anchor leg of the Bears 4x100 meter team that captured first place with a season best time of 41.40.  
 
Morgan State's quartet consisting of Kobe-Jordan Rhooms, Brandon James, Tarique Gooden and Adrian Holley placed third in the 4x400m relay finals with a time of 3:19.53, behind William & Mary (3:19.36) and George Mason (3:19.52) who took first and second place, respectively.
 
Junior Keon Rantin placed second in the 400 meter with a time of 48.88, while teammate Brandon James took third place with a personal best time of 48.93. 
 
Freshman Tarique Gooden competed in the 400 meter hurdles and crossed the finish line with a first place time of 55.83, just ahead of VCU's Sebastian Evans (55.89)
 
Derick Robinson led the Bears in the field events. The freshman recorded a first place mark of 7.00 meters in the long jump, narrowly beating out his teammate Lamar Davis who recorded a mark of 6.98 meters.

Junior Kobe-Jordan Rhooms took second place in the high jump with a season best leap of 1.95 meters. 
 
Freshman thrower John Purvis turned in a third place finish in the javelin by unleashing a toss of 46.23 meters. He also placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 15.09 meters.
