Broadus, Baxter and Ware named to BOXTOROW All-American Team

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 25, 2021) – Head coach Kevin Broadus, senior forward Troy Baxter and junior guard De'Torrion Ware were each named to the 13th annual BOXTOROW All-America Team for Division I men's college basketball on Thursday. Broadus was named Co-Coach of the Year, while Baxter and Ware were second team selections.

In his second season at MSU, Broadus led the Bears to a MEAC best 14-8 record, including a 3-1 record against Division I non-conference opponents. The Bears advanced to the MEAC Tournament title game where they fell to Norfolk State. It marked the Bears first appearance in the conference finals since 2014.

Broadus shared the honor with Prairie View A&M head coach Byron Smith. This is the third time a coach has earned the honor at Morgan State – Todd Bozeman was selected in 2009 and 2010.

Broadus was named earlier this month as a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award, as announced by CollegeInsider.com. The Ben Jobe Award is presented annually to the top minority coach in Division I men's basketball during Final Four weekend.

Baxter, a Tallahassee, Fla. Product, adds the Second Team All-America selection to his awards haul this season after earning First Team All-MEAC and All-Defensive Team honors, in addition to being named All-District Second Team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Baxter finished the conference regular season ranked No. 1 in scoring (17.1), No. 3 in blocks (1.7) and entered the MEAC Tournament shooting 44.5 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.4 percent from the free throw line.

Baxter recorded his sixth 20-point performance of the year against Norfolk State, scoring a game-high 21 points on Feb. 14 at Hill Field House. He also scored double-figures 14 times, including a season-high 28-point performance in a 95-82 victory at Coppin State on January 30, 2021.

Ware, a junior from Hopkinsville Ky., finished the season as the Bears leader in scoring with 375 points (17.0 ppg; No. 1 in MEAC) and was second on the team in rebounding with 125 (5.7 avg; No. 7). He ranked among the league leaders in three-point field goals made with 54 (T-No. 1) and his .388 three-point field goal percentage ranked eighth.

Ware, an All-MEAC Second Team selection, played in 22 games and scored 20 or more points in 10 games. He scored double figures in 9-of-17 games, including a 36-point outing vs. Delaware State (Jan. 24) and poured in 35 points vs. Florida A&M in the MEAC Tournament quarterfinals.  In three games during the tournament, Ware scored a total of 80 points, just nine points shy of the all-time MEAC tournament record.

Fourteen schools are represented on this year's BOXTOROW All-America teams.  BOXTOROW has administered the All-America team since 2009.
