Bears Open Outdoor Season at Wendy’s Meet Hosted by UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. (March 13, 2021) — Outdoor season began this weekend for the men's track and field team at the Wendy's Navy Seahawk Invitational and Seahawk Teal Invitational hosted by UNCW at the Harold Greene Track & Field Complex.

The Bears had a solid showing on Friday. Senior Kobe-Jordan Rhooms placed second in the Long Jump with a leap of 6.97 meters (ranks No. 27 in nation) and sophomore teammate Lamar Davis was third at 6.74 meters.

Junior Keon Rantin captured a second place finish in the 100 meters by clocking in with a time of 10.92 (No. 39 in nation). Freshmen Adrian Holley placed fourth (11.02) and Ali Bowens was fifth (11.04). Rantin also raced to a third place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 51.60.

On Saturday's Seahawk Teal Invitational, Rantin led the Bears with a fifth place finish in the 100 meters by clocking in with a time of 11.21. Bowens and Holley placed sixth (11.22) and seventh (11.26), respectively.

The Bears foursome consisting of Ali Bowens, Lamar Davis, Adrian Bowens and Kobe-Jordan Rhooms placed third in the 4x400 with a time of 3:29.19.

Freshman John Purvis recorded a fifth place finish with a heave of 39.74 meters in the hammer throw.

"It was great to have the team back on track after being away from campus for so long and having that year long break from competition," said head coach Neville Hodge. "The meet was a starting point for us and we look forward to our progress in training and keeping the athletes healthy week after week."
