Women’s Track & Field Has Solid Performances In Season Opener At Navy

BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 5, 2021)-The Morgan State women's track and field team had a fantastic start to the 2021-22 indoor season during Saturday's season opener in the Navy Invitational, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy.
 
The Lady Bears left the Wesley A. Brown Field House with 19 top-10 finishes, including 7 top-five performances, several personal-bests and one individual champion.
 
Aaliyah Harris made her collegiate indoor debut and captured the 60 meter dash title in a personal-best time of 7.63 and also came in second in the 200 meter dash with a person-best of 24.91.
 
Destiny Thompson would also record a personal-best in the 200m, crossing the line in a time of 25.35 seconds to place sixth. Thompson also finished sixth in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.79 seconds.
 
Alliayah Ottley ran a time of 8.87 seconds to take fourth in the 60 meter hurdles.
 
Other top-10 finishes on the track came from Rachel Field, who placed sixth in the mile, finishing the race in 5:28.92, while Jessica Lamborn came in eighth in a time of 5:45.36. Lamborn also placed ninth in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:31.50.
 
Imani Jackson ran a time of 59.22 to claim eighth in the 400 meter run.
 
The Lady Bears' 4X400 relay team of Destiny Thompson, Imani Jackson, Aaliyah Harris and Inara Shell finished 10th with a time of 4:15.66.
 
In the field, Shell placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 38-06.00, while freshman Terine Lambert capped off a third-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 41-11.50. Johnelle Johnson also earned a third-place finish, following her mark of 51-03.00 in the weight throw.  
 
Miazziah Rose placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 5-03.75 and Tia Jackson claimed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 18-05.00. Rose would finish eighth in the long jump with a mark of 17-06.25.
 
Other top-10 marks in the field came from Aylexus Lesha, who placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 37-03.25, while Johnson earned seventh in the shot put with a toss of 39-11.25.
 
Jannah Sharpe had a throw of 45-10.00 to come in seventh in the weight throw, while Diamond Moore placed eighth in the high jump with a height of 5-01.75.
 
Morgan State will return to the track on Saturday, Jan. 15 when its travels to Manhattan, N.Y. for the HBCU Showcase.
