Lady Bears Picked Ninth In MEAC Preseason Bowling Poll

NORFOLK, Va. (Oct. 1, 2020)-The Morgan State women's bowling team was picked to finish ninth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Preseason Poll, the conference announced this afternoon.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 cutting the season short, there was not a 2019-2020 MEAC Bowling Champion.

The Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore, the defending MEAC Tournament champions from the 2018-2019 season, went undefeated in the league play last year to claim the regular season title with a 10-0 mark. This season they were also picked to claim the MEAC regular season crown for the second year in a row. They secured 15 first-place votes and recorded a total of 229 points.

North Carolina A&T State (N.C. A&T) received four first-place votes along with 220 points. The Lady Aggies were picked to finish second, while Cameron Strombeck of N.C. A&T was selected as the MEAC Preseason Bowler of the Year. Strombeck was a first-team All-MEAC selection last year, and she also garnered third-team All-America honors after leading the Lady Aggies to a No. 9 national ranking at the end of the season.

Delaware State (two first-place votes) was picked to finish third, while Monmouth (one first-place vote) and UAB rounded out the top five. The five MEAC programs to be nationally ranked at the end of the 2019-20 season were chosen to finish in the top five spots. Florida A&M, Howard, Coppin State, Morgan State, Norfolk State, and Bethune-Cookman closed out the predicted order to finish poll.

Joining Strombeck on the Preseason All-MEAC team are teammate Ericka Quesada, Brooke Roberts and Chloe Skurzynski of Maryland Eastern Shore, and Saige Yamada from Monmouth.

The 2021 MEAC Bowling Championship is currently set for March 20-21 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Va.
