BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 25, 2020)-The Morgan State bowling team earned three wins during this past weekend's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) #2 event, hosted by Florida A&M at the Cordova Lanes in Pensacola, Fla.
The Lady Bears finished the two MEAC events with a combined 6-14 MEAC record to finish ninth, missing qualifying for the MEAC Championship by one spot. The top eight teams advance to the league championship in Chesapeake, Va. next month.
The MEAC regular season standings are as follows:
1) Maryland Eastern Shore, 20-0
2) North Carolina A&T, 17-3
3) Delaware State, 15-5
4) Monmouth, 13-7
5) UAB, 11-9
6) Howard, 8-12
7) Florida A&M, 7-13
8) Coppin State, 7-13
9) Morgan State, 6-14
10) Norfolk State, 5-15
11) Bethune-Cookman, 1-19Â
On Saturday the Lady Bears took North Carolina A&T State to the 10th frame in a close scoring match to that point. A couple of costly open frames by Morgan State allowed N.C. A&T to prevail in the opening contest.
The Lady Bears responded with wins against teams they had not beating in the first MEAC event in November. Morgan State beat cross town rival Coppin State 876-827, and Howard 894-839. After losing the fourth match against Delaware State 923-807, the Lady Bears struggled against Norfolk State in a low scoring match, losing 836-754.
"We had good momentum heading into the 10th frame against N.C. A&T, but ended up falling short. We need to continue to put ourselves in a position to win so we can overcome any nervous shot making," said Morgan State head coach Thomas Falbo. "Against Norfolk it came down to having too many missed makeable spares in a low scoring loss for us. Those two matches put us in the championship. With that said, I'm proud of the ladies, and we're looking forward to performing well the HBCU Championship next week."
Next up for the Lady Bears is the HBCU Championship on March 6-8, 2020 at Fun Bowl in Forest Park, Ga. There will be 16 teams entered in the event.Â
