Morgan State Signs La’Monique Berrios To Bears Bowling Team

La'Monique Berrios

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 15, 2019)-Morgan State University head bowling coach Tom Falbo is excited to announce the signing of a new addition to the Bears' bowling program beginning in January of 2020.

Coach Falbo and the Bears are welcoming in La'Monique Berrios from Frederiksted, Saint Croix, Virgin Islands. She comes to Morgan as a transfer student-athlete from Sam Houston State University. She graduated as an honor student from St. Croix Central High School in the Spring of 2019.

"We are very excited to welcome La'Monique to be joining our team starting in January. La'Monique is one of the few who create a paradigm shift in our sport. She brings unique power and fearless scoring ability," Coach Falbo said. "She has accomplished so much at a young age, and it is going to be exciting to see her contribution in scoring for our team and her growth on and off the lanes. We are such a close knit team, and her personality will add to our team chemistry now and over these next four years."

Berrios is the Virgin Islands National Champion, and at the age of 17 competed in the Qubica/AMF Bowling World Cup held in Las Vegas, NV in November of 2018. As the second youngest player competing against the best female players in the world, she finished 41st with a 184.58 average.

At the USBC Junior Gold Championships in 2018, she competed as a 17 year old in the U20 Division, finishing 94th after the Advancers Round, with a total tournament average of 189.9.

She has also competed at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico and various youth tournaments in the Caribbean.

She has posted multiple 700 series sets and a high game of 279. Her high school average as a senior was 215.

During the summers of 2016 and 2017, she was employed at the Virgin Islands Legislature in Senator Neville James office as an intern. She has also served as camp counselor at Total Academy Summer Camp, where she guided children in her two favorite passions: academics and sports.

La'Monique has proven her competitive fire, but she expresses what means most to her about becoming part of the Morgan family, "We are not a team because we work together. We are a team because we respect, love and cherish each other. We are a family."

La'Monique will be joining the Bears when they see action at the Scott-Underwood Classic, hosted by Bowie State University in Pasadena, Md. on January 17-19, 2020.
