ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Morgan State men's track & field team continued to build upon a strong start to the 2019 indoor season when they competed in the Navy Invitational II at Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse on Saturday.Â
Although the meet was not scored, the Bears had their fair share of student-athletes wearing blue and orange in Top 3 spots. In what could be considered a preview of this years Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships, today's meet showed promise.
Sophomore Keon Rantin had a huge showing at the Invitational where he took first place in the 200 meter dash with an indoor personal best 21.33, and placed third in the 60 meter dash (6.96) – both were IC4A qualifying times.
MSU freshman Brandon James and senior Shindell Henry placed third (50.01) and fourth (50.63), respectively in the 400 meter dash. Freshman teammate Ra'Mel Manley placed sixth with a time of 51.29. Â
Freshman Adewunmi Oloyede finished third in the 500 meter dash by crossing the tape with a time of 1:07.99.
The Bears' quartet of Brandon James, Keon Rantin, Shindell Henry and Ra'Mel Manley was beat out at the tape by .04 second by host Navy in the 4x400 meter relay. MSU finished with a time of 3:18.93.
Sophomore sensation Kobe-Jordan Rhooms won it all in the men's long jump with a winning clearance of 6:97 meters (22-10.50) and captured gold in the men's triple jump (14.87m – 48-09.50).Â
Freshman teammate Lamar Davis also placed second in the long jump with a 6.81 meter leap (22-04.25) and sophomore Daenah Pressly finished sixth (6.27m – 20-07.00).Â
Junior Vikarie Elliott recorded a fourth place finish in the shot put where he recorded a throw of 15.07 meters (49-05.50). Kurt Goodlitt posted a 14.83 meter toss (48-08.00) which was good enough for fifth place.
Next up for the Bears will be the Villanova Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
