Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Nominees

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced 197 nominees for the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Tuesday, including Morgan State football senior Andrew King.  For 24 years, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has recognized college football players from across the country who exemplify a superior commitment to community service and volunteerism.

Since its inception in 1992, the award highlights the "good" taking place off the football field. The select group of student-athletes nominated for this award by their respective colleges and universities are able to balance academics and athletics while remaining committed to helping others and bettering their communities.

King, a native of Columbia, Md., has been very active in community service ever since joining the Bears.

He was a part of a contingent of MSU football players who lent a hand in the cleanup efforts surrounding the Morgan State community. King also visited local elementary schools where he spoke to kids about what it takes to be a student-athlete and the importance of a college education.

"Andrew is a very humble person who looks out for his community," said MSU coach Lee Hull. "He takes pride in everything he does on and off the field. He is a great role model for young men."

King helped lead the Bears to its first MEAC Championship Title since 1979, including its first NCAA Division I playoff berth. He was the most productive receiver for the Bears despite missing the first four games of the 2014 season. He finished with a team-high 42 receptions for 508 yards, including six touchdown catches. He recorded a career-high 116 yards on eight catches and scored three TDs against Delaware State in the regular season finale.

Comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA, the final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in Sept. From the nominees submitted by sports information directors across the nation on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members and prominent college football media members will select the 2015 Good Works Team.

Morgan State football returns to action with the start of the 2015 season on Sept. 5 when they visit Air Force. For season ticket information visit morganstatebears.com.
