Men’s Cross Country Makes First Strides at Delaware Invitational

Results

BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 4, 2026) —The Morgan State men's cross country team officially opened its 2026 season Friday morning at the Delaware Invitational in Smyrna, Delaware, using the 6K race as an early test for a young Bears squad.

Morgan State placed fifth in the team standings with 118 points. Delaware State won the team competition with 20 points, followed by Wilmington (76), Coppin State (86), and Morgan State (118).

"We are very young on both the men's and women's teams. However, we did show up and compete," said Morgan State head coach Neville Hodge. "This meet gave us a chance to see what we need to do in order to prepare for our next meet. Despite the results, we did have a few bright spots. Sophomore Natnael Gebremariam was very impressive in his opening meet. Freshman Isaiah Smith had a very good performance in his first collegiate meet. As a team, we will get better each week in preparation for the MEAC Championship."

Gebremariam led the Bears with an impressive sixth-place finish, completing the 6K course at White Clay Creek State Park in 21:03.0. Gebremariam's performance placed him among the meet's top individual finishers and provided a strong start to his sophomore campaign.

Isaiah Smith was the next Morgan runner across the finish line, placing 22nd in 22:45.5. Freshman Cyrus Noel Jr. followed in 28th at 23:35.6, while sophomore Miguel Graham finished 34th in 23:55.2.

Sophomore Keenan Frisby placed 38th in 24:17.7. Freshmen Lael Espinal and Jaxon Collins finished back-to-back, placing 47th (24:59.1) and 48th (25:15.3), respectively.

Sophomore Joshua Moore rounded out the Morgan State lineup, finishing 61st in 26:55.6.

The Bears will return to competition on Saturday, Sept. 11, when they compete in the Delaware State Invitational in Smyrna, Delaware.
