Former Morgan State Standout Walter Peggs Jr. Lands Pro Deal in Georgian Superleague

BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 17, 2026) -- Former Morgan State men's basketball standout guard Walter Peggs Jr. has signed his first professional contract, joining BC Griffin Kaspi of the Georgian Superleague for the 2026-27 season.

The contract marks the next chapter in the career of the talented shooting guard, who made an immediate impact during his lone season with the Bears and established himself as one of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's top perimeter shooters.

Peggs provided instant offense and veteran leadership throughout the 2025-26 campaign. He appeared in 28 games, making six starts, while averaging 8.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per contest.

"Walter came to Morgan State with a professional mindset, and he showed that every day he stepped on the court," said Morgan State head coach Kevin Broadus. "He is a tremendous shooter, but what stood out just as much was his work ethic, toughness, and willingness to do whatever the team needed."

"I'm proud of the growth he made during his time here, and I'm excited to see him take this next step in his career," added Broadus. "He has earned this opportunity, and I know he will represent Morgan State well."

The Jackson, Tennessee, native shot 39.1 percent (79-of-202) from the field, 36.7 percent (47-of-128) from 3-point range and 81.6 percent (40-of-49) from the free-throw line. He also recorded 20 assists and 11 steals while scoring in double figures nine times.

Peggs saved some of his best performances for conference play.

On Jan. 17 at Delaware State, Peggs erupted for a season-high 29 points to help Morgan State secure an 80-79 road victory at Memorial Hall. He scored 23 of his 29 points in the first half, shooting 8-of-17 from the field and an impressive 7-of-12 from beyond the arc.

Two weeks later, Peggs continued his hot shooting against crosstown rival Coppin State, scoring 18 points in an 89-80 Morgan State victory on Jan. 31.

Peggs delivered another memorable performance late in the regular season, scoring 20 points in Morgan State's 90-84 victory over Norfolk State on March 2 at Hill Field House. He poured in 18 first-half points and knocked down six 3-pointers.

Peggs said his experience at Morgan State prepared him for the opportunity to take the next step in his basketball career.

"All glory to God! Whatever I do, I put my best foot forward every time. I've never been outside of the country, so being able to travel and play the sport I love is a blessing," Peggs said. "Everything about this past season at Morgan helped me for the next steps. From the hard practices to my interactions with the faculty, I always saw being at Morgan as an opportunity to learn and grow."

For Peggs, the opportunity to play professionally is about more than basketball. He plans to carry the same perspective and values he developed during his time in Baltimore into his first professional season overseas.

"Perspective is everything, and I plan on keeping God first and taking the same mindset to Griffin Kaspi," Peggs said. "My goal is to be impactful — on the court when somebody sees my game or even my jump shot, and off the court by helping others and spreading God's word. These are the things that matter most to me. It's bigger than basketball."
 
Peggs' emergence helped Morgan State finish the 2025-26 season with a 14-16 overall record and a 10-4 mark in MEAC play, earning the Bears a second-place finish in the regular-season standings. His ability to stretch the floor and provide scoring off the bench made him a key contributor during Morgan's late-season surge.

Now, Peggs will take his talents overseas as he begins his professional career with BC Griffin Kaspi in Georgia.

The Georgian Superleague is the top level of men's professional basketball in Georgia, giving Peggs a chance to keep developing while competing internationally.

His professional signing adds Peggs to the growing list of recent Morgan State men's basketball players who have continued their careers professionally, further highlighting the program's ability to develop talent for opportunities beyond the collegiate level.
