BALTIMORE, Md. (April 3, 2026)--In a senior night matchup, the Morgan State Acrobatics and Tumbling team (4-3) went up against third-ranked Quinnipiac University (5-1) in an intense showdown on Friday night at Hill Field House. The Lady Bears unfortunately fell short, falling to the visiting Bobcats, 267.870-236.560.

The loss ended Morgan State's school record four-match winning streak, while Quinnipiac ended its regular season on a four-match winning streak. The Bobcats cemented their No. 3 national ranking and will now await their draw in the coming weeks for the NCATA National Championships held later this month at Azusa Pacific in California.

The Lady Bears started strong with an incredible performance, showcasing sharp precision and exceptional routines. Their energy and focus were evident early during the meet, as they showed remarkable control and strong technique across their performances, but ultimately fell short in the first Compulsory event, the Acro heat. Morgan State posted a score of 7.750, falling just behind Quinnipiac's 9.300.

Several standout performances were established by the Lady Bears during the Tumbling event. In Heat 6, Junior Kayla Bryant (Base/Tumbler) established an impressive performance with a score of 9.175. However, the Lady Bears were unable to secure the event win and came up short, 54.800-51.150 and trailed the meet with a total score of 177.750-161.250, heading into the final event of the evening, the team competition.

"We're going to continue building on what we've been doing," said head coach Agina Simpkins. "We had to make some substitutions today due to illness, which led to a few mistakes, but we upgraded some of our tumbling passes and saw improvement."

"When I first arrived as a freshman, I was very shy, but being around my teammates helped me grow into a more independent person and a stronger leader," said senior Makaya Stubbs (top/tumbler), who competed in the final home contest of her career.

Morgan State will look to bounce back from the loss when it closes out the regular season on Thursday, April 9th, in Springfield, Mo., against Missouri State University in the Battle of the MSU Bears. The meet gets underway at 7 p.m. ET at Hammons Student Center.
