Morgan State Drops Opener To La Salle

Scoresheet

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 10, 2026)--
The Morgan State acrobatics and tumbling team opened its season with a competitive, hard-fought loss against first-year program La Salle University, 236.750-220.900 on Tuesday evening at Hill Field House. It was the season opener for both teams.

The Lady Bears set the tone early, dominating the compulsory event with a total score of 35.250, leaving La Salle trailing at 32.250. Morgan State continued to build the momentum in the first heat of the acro event, earning a strong 9.200 and maintaining control throughout the remainder of the meet.

However, La Salle, which was ranked No. 15 in last month's National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) Preseason Coaches' Poll, responded in the acro event, outscoring Morgan State 59.750 to 56.500. This surge shifted the momentum in La Salle's favor and created a deficit that the Lady Bears were unable to overcome.

The Lady Bears would battle back to trail the visiting Explorers by a narrow margin of 160.5-159.4 heading into the final event of the meet, the team event. However, La Salle would put the meet away with a decisive victory in the team (76.25-61.59).

This loss didn't discourage the Lady Bears.

"This week, we'll focus on solidifying the right people in the lineup," stated Morgan State first-year head coach Agina Simpkins. "We had some last-minute subs tonight, so moving forward, being able to consistently practice with athletes in their set positions will make a big difference."

Base tumbler Riley Davidson emphasized the team's support system.

"We were just uplifting each other the entire time. Even within our specific groups, we know we can execute when we work together and stick together," said Davidson.

Despite the loss, the Lady Bears demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and strong individual performances, setting a promising foundation for the rest of the season. With continued practice, Morgan State looks poised to bounce back in its upcoming meet against Iona University at Hynes Athletic Center on Saturday, February 21st at 12 pm.
