Full Results: Women's 5k | Men's 8k

CARY, N.C. (October 30, 20256 -- The Morgan State men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their 2026 campaigns Friday at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Championships at WakeMed Park in Cary, North Carolina. The Lady Bears delivered a fourth-place finish, while the men's team placed eighth.

The women's team finished with 105 points in the 5K race, highlighted by three runners placing in the top 25. Kennedi Green led Morgan State with a personal best time of 20:33.5 to finish 19th overall. Crystal Coke followed in 22nd place (21:15.3), while Natalia Eastman crossed the finish line in 21:33.8 to place 24th.

Rhian Jeffries finished 30th with a time of 22:02.7, followed by Jahniya Barclay in 36th (23:37.6 - PB). Aiana Showell (23:57.0) and Kennedi Proctor (24:36.1 - PB) also competed for the Lady Bears.

Howard captured its second consecutive MEAC women's team championship with 20 points, followed by Norfolk State (57) and Delaware State (76). Morgan State finished fourth, ahead of North Carolina Central (127), Coppin State (139), South Carolina State (171) and Maryland Eastern Shore (213).

Norfolk State's Veronica Jesang claimed the individual women's title in 18:21.8, followed by Howard's Alexis Jones (18:36.7) and Mira Martin (18:53.0).

Despite competing without its top runner at full strength due to illness, the Lady Bears turned in a solid team performance, with the middle of the lineup stepping up to help offset the deficit. Coach Neville Hodge credited the team's depth and contributions, pointing to Green and Coke as Morgan State's top performers.

"The women had a better outcome than our men's team. They were able to contribute despite not having the top runner at her best due to illness. However, the middle pack was able to make up some of the deficits. The team was led by Kennedi Green, followed by Crystal Coke," said Hodge.

On the men's side, Morgan State totaled 186 points to finish eighth in the 8K competition. Natnael Gebremariam paced the Bears with a 23rd-place finish in 26:14.4. Sam Skinner placed 35th in 27:59.2, while Noel Cyrus placed 43rd (28:45.2 - PB), Shondell Warren finished 43rd (29:18.2 - PB), and Isaiah Graham took 45th (29:28.4).

Lael Espinal (48th, 30:47.7 - PB), Jaxon Collins (32:14.0 - PB) and Johnathan Marsh (32:45.1 - PB) rounded out the Morgan State men's lineup.

Norfolk State secured its seventh MEAC men's team championship with 35 points, followed by Delaware State (62), Maryland Eastern Shore (87) and Howard (93). Coppin State (128), North Carolina Central (167) and South Carolina State (170) completed the standings ahead of Morgan State.

North Carolina Central's Aaron Alukunya captured the men's individual championship in 23:44.8. Norfolk State's Clinton Kipruto (23:57.3) and Ian Kimutai (24:11.0) finished second and third, respectively.

Hodge acknowledged that the men's team fell short of executing its race plan as a group but highlighted the performances of the younger runners, particularly the freshmen who established personal bests.

"We simply don't execute the race plan as a group. However, the freshmen had some good performances, led by Noel Cyrus and Shondell Warren, who recorded personal bests. We will now shift our focus toward the indoor track season," said Hodge.

The MEAC Championships marked the conclusion of the 2026 cross country season for both Morgan State programs as the Bears and Lady Bears turn their attention toward the upcoming indoor track and field season.
