Casillas, Copeland Recognized with MEAC Weekly Awards

BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 8, 2025) -- BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 6, 2025) -- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced Monday that a pair of Morgan State standouts have received weekly accolades following their performances in Week 2 of the season.

Senior center Daniel Casillas Jr. was selected as the MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week, while freshman wide receiver Maxim Copeland earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Casillas, the veteran anchor of the offensive line, graded out as Morgan State's top performer up front. He helped lead the Bears to 417 yards of total offense — including more than 200 on the ground — in Saturday's "Battle for Greater Baltimore." Casillas posted a grade above 90 percent and did not allow a sack.

Copeland is starting to make an impact on both special teams and offense. He blocked a punt in the first quarter that set up a Morgan State red zone opportunity, and later added an 18-yard reception to move the chains.

Morgan State (0-2) continues non-conference play on Saturday, Sept. 13, when the Bears visit Toledo (1-1) at the Glass Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.
