Ferreira, Williams Named As Leaders

BALTIMORE, Md. (Aug. 26, 2025)--Morgan State senior outside hitter Daniela Ferreira and junior middle blocker Jada Williams have been selected to serve on this season's leadership council.
 
"Jada and Daniela are pretty high remarks regarding both the leadership on and off the court," said Morgan State head coach Xiomara Ortiz. "Both are great competitors, and I think they set a good example consistently."
 
"When they first arrived, they understood the vision we had for the program and embraced it," Ortiz added. "They've demonstrated daily what it means to be true competitors—in the classroom and on the court. I'm excited to see them take the reins and continue representing what Morgan State volleyball is all about."
 
A native of Lisbon, Portugal, Ferreira enters her second season with the Bears. A year ago, she ranked 7th in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in points, 9th in kills per set, and 10th in hitting percentage and was named to the All-MEAC Tournament Team and the All-MEAC second team. Ferreira would lead Morgan in kills (305) and digs (206) last season and earned the team's MVP award.
 
Williams, who enters her third season at Morgan State, was named to the 2024 All-MEAC first team after leading the MEAC in blocks with 118, while ranking 7th in hitting percentage (.256). A native of Fredericksburg, Va., Williams finished her sophomore campaign ranked 98th in the nation in blocks per set (2.29) and currently ranks 10th all-time on the Morgan charts with 212 career blocks. Williams would receive the team's most improved award.
 
Morgan State opens the season on the road in Huntsville, Ala., on Friday, Aug. 29, against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the opener of the Betty Austin Invitational (Aug. 29-30), hosted by Alabama A&M.
