From Her Perspective…Morgan Volleyball in Africa, Jada Williams

We stayed composed, trusted each other, and came out with great energy. We dominated the fifth set and secured the championship for Morgan State.

Today was another amazing day here in Botswana. We woke up around 7:30 a.m., had breakfast, and loaded up the vans before heading to Mokolodi Nature Reserve. It was such a beautiful experience. Lunch was set up for us outside at the reserve, and the scenery made it even more special. While we were there, we got to see so many incredible animals, including giraffes, zebras, and impalas. Being able to see them in their natural environment was something I’ll never forget. After we got back, we had some downtime to rest and prepare mentally for our championship match against Team HBCU.

The championship game was definitely one for the books. We came out a little slow and dropped the first set, but we responded by winning the second and third sets. Team HBCU fought back and took the fourth set, forcing a fifth set. Facing that adversity only brought us closer together as a team. We stayed composed, trusted each other, and came out with great energy. We dominated the fifth set and secured the championship for Morgan State. It was such a rewarding feeling after all the hard work we’ve put in throughout this trip.

After the match, there was a lot of fellowship between all four teams: Team HBCU, Morgan State, Botswana, and Zambia. Everyone came together, danced, celebrated, and enjoyed the moment regardless of the final scores. It was a great reminder of how sports can bring people together. We ended the night with dinner at Molapo Crossing before heading back to get some rest. Tomorrow we’re heading to Francistown, and we have an early 6:30 a.m. departure, so it’s time for bed. Goodnight!
