NCATA 2025 Academic Honor Roll
BALTIMORE, Md. (April 29, 2025) – Morgan State University's acrobatics and tumbling team achieved a remarkable milestone: 21 of its athletes earned a spot on the NCATA Academic Honor Roll, setting a new record for the program.
This achievement underscores the team's commitment to excellence both on and off the mat. To qualify for the NCATA Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.30 and be active members of their team roster.
Under the leadership of Coach Regina Smith, the team has emphasized the importance of academics alongside athletic performance. Coach Smith instituted mandatory study hours and required a minimum GPA of 2.7 for competition eligibility, fostering a culture where academic success is prioritized.
The team's dedication to academic excellence is particularly noteworthy given their diverse backgrounds in gymnastics and cheerleading. Many athletes had no prior experience in acrobatics and tumbling before joining the team, yet they have excelled both in the classroom and in competition. This accomplishment is a testament to the athletes' hard work, discipline, and the supportive environment fostered by Coach Smith and the University. It highlights the team's ability to balance rigorous academic demands with the physical challenges of their sport, setting a high standard for future student-athletes.
