Morgan State Knocks Off Missouri State In Battle Of The Bears

Lady Bears conclude 2025 season on three-meet winning streak.

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 10, 2025)--The Morgan State Acrobatic and Tumbling team took the mat at home for the final time this season Thursday night against Missouri State in the highly awaited "Battle of the Bears" showdown at Hill Field House. Morgan took the victory with a score of 238.440 - 208.540 in a National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) meet.
 
With the win, Morgan State ended the season on a three-meet winning streak to improve to 3-5 on the year. Missouri State fell to 1-7.

 


 
The Morgan State Lady Bears opened out the gates strong in the Compulsory event. An impressive score of 9.700 in the pyramid portion skyrocketed their overall total. The Lady Bears finished the overall event with a score of 36.050. They continued this momentum into the acro heat narrowly beating out Missouri State in the event by a score of 26.550 - 25.550. 
 
Missouri State gained a little ground during the pyramid event, but the host Lady Bears still took an 87.000 - 80.400 lead into halftime. 
 
After halftime the margins could not have been any thinner. But Morgan State continued to lead the battle as they gained another slim advantage on Missouri State, winning the toss event by a score of 24.500 - 24.100, to bring the overall match score to 111.500 - 104.500 
 
Morgan then began to pull away during the tumbling event highlighted by individual performances by Kiera Harris, who scored 9.075 in heat 4, Kayla Bryant who scored 9.025 in heat 5, and Marrisa Jett who scored an impressive 9.300. Overall, the Lady Bears won this event as well and brought the total to 162.600 - 147.550.
 
The Team event was dominated by Morgan State as it won this event 75.840 to 60.990. 
 
This is Morgan's third straight win and second straight home win. 

Morgan is also the inaugural winner of "The Battle of The Bears" showdown, taking home "The Battle of The Bears" trophy!

 


 
Coach Regina Smith said the victory feels "Sweet", she also added that "it feels good to know that the trophy stays here." 
 
Senior's Amaya Burns, Indirah Mitter, and Lavell Isom were recognized after the match. We appreciate their dedication and sacrifice for laying the groundwork for the Acrobatics and Tumbling program. 
 
Senior Indiriah Mitter called the team "Resilient", she also emphasized her gratitude to be a part of the team and their inaugural season last year. After school she plans on going to grad school to study forensic psychology.
 
Lavell Isom said, "She didn't do acrobatics or cheerleading growing up… but she went under Coach's wing, and she gave her, her faith." After college Isom wants to be a graduate student.
 
"To be a part of this team was fun, because we all got to learn and grow together," said Amaya Burns, who aspires to get a full-time job within athletics.
 
Coach Smith called the senior group "A special group that trusted her…Their leadership will be missed."
