BALTIMORE, Md. (April 24, 2024) — Morgan State's men's basketball program has received a significant boost with the recent commitment of Marland Harris to Kevin Broadus' 2024 recruiting class.
The versatile 6-foot-9 center from Inglewood, California spent the past two seasons at D1 JUCO West Los Angeles College in Culver City, California.
Under the guidance of head coach Anthony Jones, Harris led the West LA Wildcats to a successful season, averaging 11.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. His impressive shooting accuracy of 53% from the field played a crucial role in the team's resurgence.
Guided by Harris's contributions, the Wildcats made a triumphant return to the state championships after a one-year hiatus. In the Southern California Regional Playoffs, they secured a dominant 74-43 victory over Saddleback College in Round 3. However, their journey came to an end in the 3C2A State Championships, where they narrowly lost 73-71 to Sequias on March 15 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
In the 2022-23 season, Harris appeared in 22 games and helped the Wildcats achieve a 19-11 overall record and a 10-4 in conference record. He averaged 8.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and led the team as a freshman with 38 blocked shots. His offensive versatility was showcased by his ability to score in double figures nine times, including a standout performance against Citrus where he notched a season-high 26 points, along with 13 rebounds and four blocks. These statistics highlight Harris's all-around contributions to the Wildcats' success on the court.
Harris will join a Morgan State squad coming off of an 11-20 campaign in which they went 7-7 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play before suffering a setback in the MEAC Tournament quarterfinals.
Joining the Morgan State Bears, Harris finds himself on a team brimming with potential and poised for a resurgence. Under the guidance of Head Coach Kevin Broadus, the Bears are determined to shake off the disappointment of their 11-20 record in the 2023-2024 campaign and reclaim their status as a competitive force.
With a roster filled with talented players and a coaching staff driven to succeed, Morgan State is eager to prove they have what it takes to challenge for championships and make a mark in the college basketball landscape.
