Bowling Captures HBCU Invitational Title

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 12, 2024)--The Morgan State bowling team put together its best outing of the season, en route to capturing the 2024 TNBA/HBCU Invitational title.
 
The Lady Bears (45-42) finished the three-day tournament with an 11-2 record to claim the team title.
 
Individually, Morgan State had two bowlers place in the top 10. Sophomore Johnna Hill finished fifth overall with a total of 949 pins. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native averaged 189.80 and had a high game of 263 against Livingstone.
 
Senior Cheyenne Washington placed eighth with a total of 928 pins. A native of Pontiac, Mich., Washington averaged 185.60 and recorded a high game of 220 against Livingstone.
 
Morgan State began the tournament going 4-1 in Baker play on Friday. The Lady Bears defeated Grambling State (876-739) and Texas Southern (889-875), before suffering its lone loss to Alabama State (789-827). Morgan then closed out with wins over Southern (865-831) and Florida A&M (931-719).
 
During Saturday's Traditional team play, Morgan State again went 4-1. Morgan State defeated host Jackson State (958-805) then fell to Alabama A&M (781-947). The Lady Bears then closed out the day winning their final three contests. Morgan defeated Jackson State for a second time, 933-879 then beat Virginia Union (795-744) and Livingstone (961-633).
 
Heading into Sunday's championship bracket round Baker play, the Lady Bears were seeded second. They matched up against Alabama State and defeated the Hornets in a tight contest, 4-3. Morgan State then took out Livingstone, 4-0, setting the stage for a rematch with Alabama State in the championship match. The Lady Bears and Hornets would again go the distance with Morgan earning a 4-3 win and the tournament title.
 
Morgan State will now turn its attention to next week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship (March 21-24) in Raleigh, N.C.
