STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Feb. 3, 2024) — The Morgan State men's track and field team made the trek up to State College this weekend for the Sykes & Sawbock Challenge hosted by Penn State at the PSU Multi-Sport Facility. The Bears put together eight Top-10 marks including a pair of strong performances by senior Derick Robinson in the long jump and sophomore Omari McKenzie in the triple jump.
Robinson and McKenzie took second place in their respective events. Robinson took second in the long jump and set a new PR with a leap of 7.40m (24-03.50), while McKenzie cleared 14.29m in the triple jump.
Also in the field events, sophomore Zackary Dillon took sixth place in the shot put with a toss of 15.64m. Junior Malik Brown was 11th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.03m (13-02.50), while freshman Isaac Rankin cleared 1.88m in the high jump to take 13th place.
Senior Adrian Holley led the men in the 60-meter with a 12th place time of 7.05, followed by sophomore Antonio Sims (7.07) and Derick Robinson (7.16).
Freshman Johnny Maple clocked in a time of 1:08.59 in the 500-meters and freshman Aaron Bhagwan finished with a time of 1:09.30.
Sophomore Dante Jackson won the fourth heat by setting a new PR time of 48.82 that was good enough for seventh place in to 400-meters. Junior Demier Shipley clocked in at 49.48 (9th) and sophomore Antonio Sims ran a 49.75 (11th).
In the 200-meters, Holley turned in a time of 22.60 (16th) , followed by Shipley with a 22.69 (18th)
Morgan's 4x400-meter quartet consisting of Antonio Sims, Dante Jackson, Tarique Gooden and Demier Shipley, raced to a sixth place finish by crossing the tape with a time of 3:20.16.
