Asinor Begins New Year With Pole Vault Win At HBCU Showcase

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 13, 2024)---The Morgan State women's indoor track and field team four returned to action for the first time in 2024 as the team competed in the HBCU Showcase sponsored by KPMG on Saturday at the Armory Track & Field Center.

The Lady Bears would conclude the meet with nine top-10 finishes, including four top-five marks and an individual champion.

Ishana Asinor would capture the lone individual title for Morgan State, as she won the pole vault with a mark of 10-feet-11.75 inches (3.35m). Asinor's mark would tie both the school record and her personal best in the event. It is also the top mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Tia Jackson claimed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet-7.5 inches, while Laniyah Henderson placed sixth with a leap of 17-feet-5.5 inches. Hemetii Apet finished seventh with a jump of 17-feet-4.0 inches.

Terine Lambert came in fifth in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying toss of 45-feet-9.75 inches.

On the track, Gabrielle Jeffries placed third in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 57.80 seconds.

Makenzie Harris ran an ECAC qualifying time in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.90 seconds.

Abigail Fisher placed seventh in the mile run, finishing in a time of 5:38.90. Jessica Lamborn came in ninth in the 800-meter run, running a time of 2:23.18.

Morgan State will return to New York next week when it travels to Staten Island for the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m.
