BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 4, 2023) — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced Erick Hunter as the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week for his exceptional performance during the inaugural week of the 2023 football campaign. This marks the first time Hunter has received this prestigious honor, further solidifying his reputation as an emerging defensive powerhouse in the league.
Hunter, a junior linebacker from Capitol Heights, Md., showcased his talent and resilience on the field, leading the Bears to an impressive 17-10 upset road victory over #18 Richmond at Robins Stadium. He recorded 11 tackles, four solo, with 1.5 sacks for a four-yard loss and collected a huge strip-sack on Spiders quarterback Kyle Wickersham to help setup the final score of the night and seal the victory.
As a unit, Morgan was relentless as they accounted for 7.5 TFL, five sacks, three QB hurries, three fumble recoveries and an interception. The Bears also limited Richmond to converting just 3-of-12 third-downs.
Morgan (1-0, 0-0) returns to action for a Saturday night matchup against the Akron Zips (0-1, 0-0). The game will be played at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field in Akron, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST and will be broadcast by ESPN+ and WEAA, 88.9FM.
