Women’s Track & Field Places Second At MEAC Championship

NORFOLK, Va. (May 11, 2023)--The Morgan State women's track and field team closed out the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships on Thursday with a second place finish at Dick Price Stadium on the campus of Norfolk State University.
 
Howard captured the team title with 241.50 points. It was the second straight outdoor title and third overall for the Bison. Howard also completed the season sweep (cross country, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field).
 
Morgan State was second with 138 points. Host Norfolk State was third with 102.50 points. Delaware State (92.5) and Coppin State (88) rounded out the top five of the team standins.
 
Howard's David Oliver repeated as the meet's Outstanding Coach. Norfolk State's Mercyline Kimaiyo, who earned three gold medals and one silver during the meet, earned Outstanding Runner honors, while Norfolk State's Leslie Young repeated as Outstanding Field Performer.
 
The Lady Bears entered Championship Thursday sitting atop the leaderboard with 83 points after two days. Morgan State would close out the championships adding three silver medals on the day in the field events.
 
Morgan State's Ishana Asinor placed second in the pole vault. Asinor totaled 9-11.75.
 
Morgan State also took silver in the javelin throw with Brylan Carter throwing 36.17 meters. Tia Jackson placed fifth with a distance of 32.75 meters and Rachel Field finished sixth with a mark of 31.06 meters. Terine Lambert threw 24.04 meters to place 10th.
 
Inara Shell earned silver in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 12.45 meters, which also set a new school record. Denisha McLaurin finished 10 with a mark of 11.13 meters.
 
On the track Rachel Field placed fourth in the 5000 meter run, finishing in a time of 19:27.00.
 
Abigail Fisher ran a time of 5:07.09 to come in fourth in the 1500 meter run. Jessica Lamborn would place fifth, crossing the line in a time of 5:09.26. Lamborn would also finish in sixth in the 800 meter run with a time 2:18.81.
 
Morgan State's Aleisha Robinson ran a time of 56.43 seconds to place sixth in the 400 meter dash, while Yasmine George came in sixth in a time of 56.98.
 
The top three finishers in each event earned All-MEAC honors.
