NORFOLK, Va. (April 10, 2023)-Morgan State senior third baseman
Victoria Fletcher was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, while junior pitcher
Anaya Hunte was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced on Monday.

It marks the third time this season that Fletcher and Hunte were named player and pitcher of the week together. This is the third weekly honor for Fletcher this season and the sixth for Hunte.

North Carolina Central's Takia Nichols was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Fletcher had a colossal weekend, hitting .778 (7-for-9) with eight RBIs, a run and a stolen base to lead Morgan State to a 3-0 week. The Huntingtown, Md. native began the week going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a stolen base in an 8-0 win over Delaware State. Fletcher then went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs in the second game. She also started the game at pitcher, throwing five strikeouts to earn a five-inning complete game shutout victory. Fletcher ended the series going 2-for-3 with a RBI in the finale win against the Hornets.

Hunte went 2-0 for the week, allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out 13 batters to improve to 12-5 on the season. A native of Burlington, N.J., Hunte struck out six batters in a six-inning complete-game win in the series opener against Delaware State. Additionally, as a batter she went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI in the Game 1 victory. Hunte would also go the distance in the series finale, striking out seven and allowing an unearned run on four hits.

Morgan State (20-13) will travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. on Tuesday, April 11 to face the Broncs of Rider in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Herb & Joan Young Field. Both contests will air live on ESPN+.
