BALTIMORE, Md. (May 20, 2025) - Morgan State head softball coach Larry Hineline has stepped down from his position with the program, Vice President and Director of Athletics
Dena Freeman-Patton announced on Tuesday.
"We are grateful for Coach Hineline's dedication and leadership during his time with our program," Freeman-Patton said. "His commitment to academic excellence and competitive success will leave a lasting impact at Morgan. We wish Coach Hineline the very best in his future endeavors. We have launched a nationwide search for the next head coach of our softball program."
Hineline completed his 11th season as Morgan State's head softball coach, after taking over the program before the 2015 season as the fourth head coach in the program's history.
"After 11 incredible years leading this program, I've decided to step down as head coach," said Hineline. "I'm deeply grateful for the student-athletes, staff, and supporters who have made this journey so meaningful. It's been an honor to be a Bear and to help shape the lives of so many young women and establish a championship environment at Morgan State."
After taking over a program that went 8-21 the year before, Hineline elevated the Bears to championship-caliber program status shortly after. Morgan State won the MEAC Regular Season Championship four straight seasons from 2021 to 2024 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and 2024.
Hineline caps his Morgan State career with two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors, an overall record of 225-205 (.523), and a conference mark of 129-73 (.638). Bear student-athletes have earned 39 all-conference honors, 8 major individual awards, and numerous all-academic honors under Hineline's tutelage.
"I'll always cherish the memories and I want to thank the Morgan State leadership who afforded me this wonderful opportunity," said Hineline. "This program will always hold a special place in my heart."
