Isaiah Burke Named to All-MEAC Team

Rob Lawson Named to MEAC All-Rookie Team

NORFOLK, Va. (March 6, 2023) – Morgan State senior guard Isaiah Burke was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, while freshman Rob Lawson was named to the All-Rookie Team.  The league announced its awards Tuesday in advance of the 2023 Men's Basketball Tournament, which begins Wednesday at Norfolk Scope Arena.
 
Burke, a product of Bowie, Md., is averaging 18.7 points (ranks No. 2 in the MEAC), 2.4 rebounds (No. 13) as a senior. He the leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (.429) and additionally ranks No. 19 in the nation in 3-pointers made per game (3.03) and T-No. 22 in 3-pointers made (91).

Burke was named three times as the MEAC Player of the Week this season, and was one of the only players in the nation to record 30 or more points in three consecutive games (Jan. 9, Jan. 14, Jan. 18).
 
Burke has scored in double-figures in 29 of 30 games played and has scored 20 or more points in 15 games. He currently ranks among the school's all-time leaders – he is No. 3 in 3-pointers made (188); No. 18 in scoring (1,204) and he ranks No. 3 in 3-pointers made in a season with 91.

Lawson has played in 28 of 30 games and is averaging 5.1 points per game with 1.8 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game. The Capitol Heights (Md.) native enters the MEAC Tournament shooting 38.8 percent (50-for-129) from the field and 70 percent (33-for-47) from the free throw line. 

Lawson's top overall game came against Howard on Feb. 20 when he had 12 points, four rebounds, three assists in 33 minutes off the bench.
 
All awards, presented by Well Fargo, were voted on by the conference's head men's basketball coaches and sports information directors.

The Bears completed the regular season with a 15-15 record (7-7 MEAC) and will be the No. 5 seed in next week's conference tournament. The Howard Bison (19-12, 11-3) will be the No. 1 seed.

The 2022-23 regular-season champion, First Team honorees and other award winners, including Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, will be recognized in pre-game presentations prior to the honorees' first games in tournament play.
 
Tournament play begins Wednesday, March 8, and runs through Saturday, March 11, at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
