Morgan State Ready To Host Annual Legacy Track Meet

Running events are slated to start at 9:00 a.m., while Field events start at 10:00 a.m.

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 11, 2023) – Morgan State alumni, students, friends and family and track fans in general, it's almost that time again!

The Morgan State track and field teams will host its first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, April 22 as the Bears take part in the annual Legacy Track Meet at Earl C. Banks Field at Hughes Stadium. Running events are slated to begin at 9:00 a.m., while field events start at 10:00 a.m. 

Three current athletes are reigning champs of the meet in their respective events. Johnelle Johnson took first in the shot put at last year's meet with a toss of 44.02.75. Tia Jackson earned gold in the long jump with a mark of 19-04.25 and Rachel Field captured gold in both the 3000m Steeplechase after finishing in 11:46.14 and won the 5000m run by crossing the tape in 20:06.79.

Morgan State will honor their senior class during a ceremony on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

The 2023 Legacy Track Meet features 15 total teams, including the likes of: Bowie State, Coppin State, Delaware State, District of Columbia, Howard, Lincoln (Pa.), Old Dominion, Towson, and Virginia State.

Looking Ahead   
Up next, the Bears will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to compete in the prestigious Penn Relay Carnival at historic Franklin Field. The three-day event begins Thursday, April 27th and will conclude Saturday, April 29th. Live results and video will be available at www.thepennrelays.com.
