VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Feb. 21, 2023)-The Morgan State women's track and field team concluded the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Tuesday with a third-place finish.
 
Morgan State would total 89 points after 17 scored events during the three-day championships held at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex. The Lady Bears captured gold in three events and totaled 13 top-five finishes.
 
Howard defended its title from a year ago, finishing with 235 points, while Norfolk State placed third with 116. Delaware State (59 points) and Coppin State (57 points) came in fourth and fifth, respectively. North Carolina Central scored 56 points to place sixth, while South Carolina State (30) and Maryland Eastern Shore (10) finished seventh and eighth.

The Lady Bears put together a strong finish on Tuesday, wrapping up the championships with their third gold and six top-five finishers.
 
Terine Lambert won the shot put, following her winning toss of 45 feet 07.25 inches, which also set a personal best. Teammate Johnelle Johnson was third with a throw of 44 feet 04.25 inches.
 
Ishana Asinor posted a height of 10 feet 06.00 inches to place second in the pole vault.
 
Rachel Field placed fifth in the 3000 meter run, finishing the event in a time of 11:03.97. Field also placed sixth in the mile run, finishing in a time of 5:21.43.
 
Inara Shell had a leap of 39 feet 08.50 inches to place fifth in the triple jump.
 
Morgan State's 4X400 meter relay team of Destiny Ward, Yasmine George, Jalissa Emmens and Aleisha Robinson ran a time of 3:52.93 to finish fifth.
 
Morgan State entered the third and final day on Tuesday sitting in second with 45 points, five points ahead of then third-place Norfolk State with 40 points after six scored events. Howard led the way with 66 points.
 
Tia Jackson led the Lady Bears Day 2 performances by capturing the high jump title on Monday with a personal-best height of 5 feet 06.00 inches. It was the second title of the championships for Jackson, who a day earlier won the long jump title. Jackson would also place eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.76 seconds.
 
Morgan State's distance medley team of Jalissa Emmens, Aleisha Robinson, Asydiah Pray-Brown and Rachel Field placed fourth in the event in a time of 12:49.79.
 
Johnelle Johnson set a personal best in the weight throw with a throw of 56 feet 10.75 inches to finish fourth. Terine Lambert placed ninth with 46 feet 11.00 inches. Brylan Carter had a throw of 44 feet 04.75 inches to finish 10th.   
 
Alliayah Ottley placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles after setting a personal best time of 8.55 seconds.
