VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Feb. 19, 2023)--The Morgan State women's indoor track and field team concluded Day 1 of the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships sitting in second place in the team standings with 19 points after two scored events at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.

Defending champion Howard is in first having scored 21 points. Delaware State is in third with 18 points, while Norfolk State is fourth with 10. South Carolina State (5 points) is in fifth and North Carolina Central (2 points) rounded out Sunday's scoring in sixth.

The Lady Bears scored all of their points in the long jump, placing three in the event, including collecting both gold and silver.

Tia Jackson captured the long jump title with a leap of 19 feet, 06.00 inches (5.94m), while
Inara Shell placed second with a mark of 18 feet 11.25 inches (5.77m).
Denisha McLaurin added to the Lady Bears' scoring, by placing eighth with a jump of 17 feet, 11.50 inches (5.47m).

Monday's action begins at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. The women's pentathlon begins at 9:20 a.m., and running events begin at 12 p.m. with the prelims of the women's 60-meter hurdles.
