Morgan State Football Opens Camp This Week

BALTIMORE, Md. (August 2, 2022) – Morgan State football opens its preparations for the 2022 fall season this week as its student-athletes officially report for fall camp on Tuesday with practice opening Wednesday morning on the turf at Earl C. Banks Field at Hughes Stadium.

The football team officially reported to campus for the first fall team-related activities on Tuesday (Aug. 2). The report day schedule included meeting with academics, compliance, strength & conditioning, and the athletic equipment staff in the MSU Student Center.

MSU opens its preseason fall camp that spans the month of August with its first of two helmet-only practices in the NCAA-mandated acclimation period on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The Bears are slated to practice daily from 9:00 am until 11:30 am. Each afternoon includes team, unit, and position meetings, as well as work in the weight room with MSU's Strength & Conditioning staff.

MSU football's preseason camp schedule features 17 practice sessions before school starts on Monday, Aug. 22, when the team moves into its in-season schedule. The docket also includes a pair of preseason scrimmages, both coming on a Saturday – on Saturday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 20 beginning at Noon.

Each of MSU's preseason football practices is open to the public. It is respectfully requested, though, that spectators observe from the stadium seating area and avoid being either on the field or the sidelines for safety. Practice times are subject to change.

Entering his first season at the helm, Damon Wilson talked with members of the media at last week's 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Football Media Day about building the Bears football program. Wilson feels that despite being picked to finish last in MEAC in 2022, there is a belief among players and coaches that the Bears are better than what they are perceived.

"The cupboard is not bare," said Wilson. "There are some football players at Morgan State University, and we just want to add to that and make sure our guys understand our scheme."

Wilson indicated that the process for making immediate improvements at Morgan State "starts with educating them on past Morgan State history."

"There's some guys and some students that graduated from Morgan State that remember the glory days," said Wilson. "We want to bring those glory days back. And I think we have the ability to do that with the support of our administration and everybody's support on campus. This is an all-hands-on-deck approach."
