CHESAPEAKE, Va. (Feb. 21, 2022)-The Morgan State Lady Bears finished the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season composite standings in fourth-place after Sunday's round of traditional play.

On Sunday, Morgan State had a total pinfall of 3,771 for four games bowled. Morgan ended up going 1-3 on the day, which moved their conference match record to 9-7. The final composite regular season standings after Sunday's round are as follows:

North Carolina A&T State (14-2)
Delaware State (11-5)
Maryland Eastern Shore (11-5)
Morgan State (9-7)
UAlabama-Birmingham (9-7)
Monmouth (9-7)
Coppin State (5-11)
Norfolk State (2-14)
Howard (1-15)

The Bears secured fourth-place seed based on splitting wins with both UAB and Monmouth, but having a higher total pinfall for the regular season (MEAC #1 and MEAC #2 events).

Sunday's Traditional Matches:
#18 Morgan State 998, #16 Monmouth 1,080
The Bears' first match against the Hawk's of Monmouth was much closer than the score indicated. Carry in key situations for the Bears would have taken this match right to the end, but it was not to be as Monmouth stayed strong in taking the first match. The Bears were led in scoring by La'Monique Berrios with a 245, Cheyenne Washington 201, Carrington Beaman 197, Ashanti Fernandes 189 and Natalia Miranda Vega 166.

#18 Morgan State 1,012, Norfolk State 843
In Match 2, the Lady Bears struck often and had a balanced attack against Norfolk State to take the victory. Leading the way was Natalia Miranda Vega with a 230, Cheyenne Washington with a solid 214 game, La'Monique Berrios with a 202, Ashanti Fernandes with a 189 and Carrington Beaman with a 180 game.

#18 Morgan State 906, #14 Delaware State 938
Morgan State and Delaware State both had trouble figuring out the pair. For Morgan State, Naomi Smith and Aliya Adams came into the line up to add fire to the scoring, but Delaware State struck often in the 10th frame to pull away in the closing frames to get the win. Cheyenne Washington led the Bears in scoring with a 214 game.

#18 Morgan State 855, UAB 879
Match #5 saw the Bears fall behind early but they battled back to take this match to the closing frames. Pin carry again was not a friend to Morgan and UAB held strong to take the final match victory.

Morgan State averages for the weekend:
Ashanti Fernandes 208.5 for eight games, La'Monique Berrios 197.83 for 6 games, Cheyenne Washington 196.88 for nine games, Natalia Miranda Vega 187.33 for 9 games, Aliya Adams 178.0 for 3 games, Naomi Smith 176.33 for 3 games and Carrington Beaman 173.86 for 7 games.

Coach Thomas Falbo comments about their conference regular season finish. "Looking back to a year ago when we were a one-win team in conference and to see what these ladies have accomplished this season is remarkable," said Falbo "Coming off two weekend's of competition, we will rest up this week, but then get back to work beginning next week as we look forward to the HBCU Championship."

The Lady Bears will next compete in Douglasville, Ga. at the TNBA/HBCU Championship on March 4-6, 2022.
