ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Dec. 5, 2022)--Morgan State junior
Tia Jackson put together a record setting day on Saturday at the Navy Invitational to begin the 2022-23 indoor track and field season. The Bristol, UK native captured two golds at Navy's Wesley A. Brown Field House, while also breaking a meet record.

Jackson would set the Navy Invitational Meet record in the long jump with a winning leap of 5.99 meters to break the old mark of 5.93 meters, which was set by Kirsten Andrews on Feb. 17, 2007.

On the track, Jackson would also capture gold in the 60 meter dash, finishing in a time of 7.63 seconds.

Makenzie Harris placed third in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.90 seconds, while
Denisha McLaurin ran a time of 9.17 to place sixth.
Â
Destiny Ward finished fourth in the 400 meter dash, crossing the line in 59.21 seconds.
Yasmine George was sixth, finishing in a time of 1:00.50.

Rachel Field completed the mile run in a time of 5:28.77 to place eighth.
Â
Morgan State would have three runners cross the line one after another in the 800 meter run.
Aleisha Robinson came in ninth in a time of 2:25.56 and
Asydiah Pray-Brown ran a time of 2:26.15 to place 10
th.
Jalissa Emmens finished in a time of 2:26.28 to place 11
th.

The Lady Bears' 4X400 meter relay team of
Aleisha Robinson, Destiny Ward,
Yasmine George and
Asydiah Pray-Brown crossed the line in a time of 3:57.38 to place fourth.

Morgan's field events team also had success with seven top-10 finishes. Â

Following up Jackson's record-breaking performance in the long jump was
Inara Shell, who placed second with a mark of 5.89 meters.

Denisha McLaurin placed sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 11.20 meters. Tiana Bey recorded a mark of 10.62 meters to place eighth.

Johnelle Johnson had a throw of 16.25 meters to place sixth in the weight throw.
Terine Lambert placed ninth with a throw of 14.97 meters.

Johnson would also place ninth in the shot put with a toss of 11.19 meters.
Â
Morgan State will return to action this Saturday, Dec. 10 when it closes out the 2022 portion of its schedule with a trip to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the Joe Handyman Invitational, hosted by Princeton.
