Men’s Cross Country captures team title in season opener

BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 4, 2021) -- The Morgan State men's cross country season opened with the Bears capturing the team title Saturday during the Towson XC Invitational in Cockeysville, Maryland. 
 
The Bears came in first place with 30 points, followed by St. Mary's (Md.) with 33 points and Coppin State finished third with 70 points.
 
Jackson Waller and Justin Alston led the way for the Bears, who dominated the meet on a sunny day at the Baltimore County Agricultural Center.
 
Waller finished the 5K course in 17:31.70 as the freshman won his first race as a Bear, edging out sophomore teammate Alston, who was second in 17:47.50.
 
Freshmen Devion Bryant (18:15.30) and Nasir Wallace (18:30.80) earned top-10 finishes as they placed sixth and eighth, respectively.
 
"We are very proud of the way the men performed today at our season opener," said MSU head coach Neville Hodge. "We are a young team and getting the win today was a good start for our guys. We are looking forward to getting better as the season progresses."

On Saturday, Sept. 11, Morgan will travel to Dover, Delaware to compete in Delaware State's Invitational.
