Morgan State Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

Award is first in program history

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 20, 2020) - The Lady Bears' volleyball program was honored on Monday as a recipient of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season.
 
The award honors teams who have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom.
 
Morgan State was announced as one of a record-setting 1,313 teams that earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, topping last year's record by almost 200 teams. A record 227 NCAA Division I Women's programs were named and 232 schools received Team Academic honors for the first time in 2020.
 
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
 
Morgan State, which is receiving the award for the first time in program history, posted a team GPA of 3.48 for the academic year.
