BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 20, 2025)—The third-seeded Morgan State volleyball team had its season come to an end on Thursday night, as the Beas would fall to No. 6 Maryland Eastern Shore, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-17) in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship at the Physical Education Complex Arena.
The Bears finished the season 11-14 overall and 8-6 in the MEAC, while UMES improved to 11-17, 7-7 MEAC. The Hawks will now face No. 2 Howard on Friday at 8 p.m.
Daniela Ferreira, playing in what would be her final collegiate match, led Morgan State with a match-high 13 kills, eight digs, two assists, a service ace and a block.
Aubrey Wilson added seven kills and three blocks, while
Jada Williams totaled a match-high five blocks to go with four kills and a service ace.
Mya Karrick and
Isabelle Brown each tallied 12 assists. Karrick finished with six digs and a block, and Brown added two blocks and a dig.
UMES rattled off nine straight points to take a 9-1 lead over Morgan State in the opening set. Wilson ended the Hawks' run with a kill and the Bears slowly crept back into the contest. Morgan used back-to-back mini 3-0 runs to pull within 13-9. Trailing 16-11, the Bears scored four straight points in the midst of a 7-2 spurt to even the score at 18 all.
The Hawks scored two straight to go up 20-18, before Morgan State went on a 4-2 run to even the set at 22-22, capped off by an attack error on UMES. But Morgan State would never take the lead, as the Hawks closed out the set scoring the final three points for the 25-22 victory.
Set 2 was tight early on with six ties and seven lead changes through the first combined 19 points. Morgan State scored three straight points to take a 9-7 lead, following an ace by Williams. However, the Hawks countered with seven consecutive points to take a14-9 advantage and gain control of the set. The Bears got back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to 14-11, but the Hawks went on a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 19-11.
A Morgan State service error put the Hawks ahead 24-15, but the Bears were not going to just give in. On the serve of
Mele Taumoepeau, Morgan State would score the next six points with Taumoepeau recording three consecutive service aces during the stretch to bring the Bears within 24-21. However, the Hawks ended the comeback attempt with a kill from Karielys Melendez for the 25-21 set victory and 2-0 lead heading into the third set.
UMES closed out the match recording 15 kills and hitting .379 in Set 3, both set highs. Morgan State trailed 10-6 after a solo block by Williams when the Hawks used a 4-1 run to increase their lead to 14-7. The Bears would get as close as four points twice with the last coming when Morgan pulled within 20-16, following a kill by Ferreira and an assisted block by Williams and Brown. But the Hawks would score the next two points to trigger a 5-1 run to close out the set and match with the 25-17 victory.
The Hawks were led by Jayda Hutchins, who finished with 12 kills, four digs and two blocks. Melendez totaled nine kills, six digs, two assists and had a match-high seven service aces.
