BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 11, 2020)-The Morgan State women's indoor track and field team competed in its first meet of the of 2020, as it travelled to New York for the third annual Historically Black College & Universities (HBCU) Battle at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
 
The Lady Bears would finish in a tie on Friday with fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Delaware State for second with 70 points. Howard won the event with a total of 198 points, while Coppin State (68.5) and Maryland Eastern Shore (64.5) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
Morgan State, which captured the team title in the inaugural meet in 2018, produced 17 top-10 finishes on Friday, including one individual champion and a relay champion..
 
Sophomore Miazziah Rose captured the Lady Bears' lone individual title with a height of 5-foot-3 to win gold in the high jump.
 
Rose also placed fourth in the triple jump, with a leap of 36-feet-9.5. Jordan Williams (34-10.5) and Lenea Johnson (32-10.5) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
 
Jannah Sharpe placed second in the weight throw, recording a personal-best throw of 53-0.25, while Nadirah Umrani-Sanders had a throw of 44-9.5 to finish fourth.
 
Jaida West had a toss of 39-8.75 to come in fourth in the shot put, while Diamond Moore jumped 16-5.0 to place ninth in the long jump.
 
Morgan State also had strong performances on the track too.
 
Valencia McDowell posted a third-place finish in the mile run, crossing the line in a time of 5:22.40.
 
Nofisat Adeyemi completed the 60 meter hurdles event in a time of 9.03 seconds to place fourth, while Dejah Tinsley came in sixth in a time of 9.53.
 
Dinedye Denis placed sixth in the 200 meter dash (25.27) and also came in seventh in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.89 seconds.
 
Michelle Kamara and Kimani Davis placed ninth and 10^th, respectively in the 400 meter dash. Kamara ran a time of 59.65 seconds, while Davis crossed the line in 59.71 seconds.
 
In the relays, the Lady Bears' 4X200 meter team of Destiny Thompson, Alantra Mines, Naomi Brown and Alliayah Ottley ran a time of 1:44.96 to finish fourth.
 
The 4X400 meter team of Dinedye Denis, Michelle Kamara, Dejah Tinsley and Kimani Davis crossed the line in first place after running a time of 3:54.24 to capture Morgan State's second title of the day.
 
Next up for the Lady Bears will be a trip to Columbia, S.C. to take part in the Gamecock Opener (Jan. 17-18), hosted by the University of South Carolina.
